True agricultural transformation begins with the farmer. We have built a programme designed to onboard, train and commercially empower smallholder farmers — helping them grow more, earn more, and take part confidently in local and global markets.
This service sits at the intersection of capacity building, technology transfer and value chain inclusion. Whether we are introducing new fertilizers, deploying drones or aggregating produce for export, the first step is always the same: build trust and grow capability at the grassroots.
Core offerings
Farmer onboarding and digital registration
Identification and verification of farmers in rural communities; collection of demographic, land use and crop data; enrolment into Nest’s digital database and extension network; and group formation and cooperative integration.
Over 3,000 farmers have been onboarded across Kano, Niger, Kaduna and Jigawa to date.
Training and capacity building
On-field and classroom-based sessions, delivered in local languages through trusted extension officers. Modules cover best practice for MoGloop® and BOOSTER application, pest and disease management, climate-smart and regenerative farming methods, and harvest handling and post-harvest loss reduction.
Demonstration plot programmes
Establishing demo farms to showcase technology and inputs, using a farmer observation and peer-to-peer learning model, with comparative yield analysis between traditional and improved methods and data collection for agronomic and commercial validation. Used across northern states to trial liquid fertilizer on rice, maize and tomato.
Input access and distribution
Access to certified agro-inputs including MoGloop®, BOOSTER and seed; bundled services combining inputs, spraying, logistics and advisory; partnerships with cooperatives and community leaders for last-mile delivery; and flexible models covering cash, credit, group finance and subsidy-linked purchase.
Market linkages and offtake
Aggregation of produce from smallholders for bulk trade, formal supply contracts with processors, exporters and buyers, transparent pricing and payment systems, and buyer–seller matchmaking through our partner network.
Financial inclusion and credit readiness
Basic financial literacy training, farmer credit profiles built from transaction records, referrals to Nest-backed microfinance partners, and digitisation of farmer transactions to support future credit scoring.
What we measure
Yield increase and fertilizer efficiency, farmer income improvement, training sessions completed, farmer satisfaction and retention, conversion from demonstration to purchase, and total market value of aggregated produce.
