With our partner Cultivos, we have begun field trials of a bio-based bird repellent for staple crops.
Bird attack on crops like rice and millet is one of the leading causes of post-planting loss in Nigeria. The repellent is non-toxic and safe for food crops, lasts up to 21 days in the field, and can be applied either by drone or by knapsack sprayer.
The trials sit inside our wider special projects work, where we design and test scalable models — bird repellent deployment across the grain belts, drone-enabled extension services, traceability systems for export crops, and bundled input–output models for farmers.
Cultivos Capital is among our current partners, alongside Niger Foods Ltd and the Niger State Government, the All Farmers Progressive Association, A.M. Sabiq Ltd, DJI Agriculture, and BOI and NEXIM Bank.
